Recreational Therapy

All ages

This therapy covers a wide range of activities such as attending sporting events, working out at the gym, playing board or video games, participating in arts and crafts, volunteering, outdoor activities, and much more.

Recreational Therapy Plan

Your Recreational Therapy Assessment and Treatment Plan will reflect who you are as an individual and will include strengths and suggested treatment areas. Your treatment plan can be updated at any time throughout the year.

Consistent care

We work as a team to keep each other updated on each client’s needs. If your primary recreational therapist is not available (i.e. vacation), we will find another consultant to assist you.

Multiple environments

Your recreational therapist may want to see you at home, in the community, or in our South Bend office. Each location provides different opportunities to work toward your recreational therapy goals.

Small Group Skill Lab

BST offers regularly-scheduled social gatherings, clubs, and events that provide opportunities to address various skill areas outside of regular one-on-one sessions. Our skills labs not only provide opportunities to enhance individualized goals and objectives, they also give clients the chance to socialize, make connections, and form friendships with one another in a safe and supportive environment.

Reduce disability effects, increase independence.

One of the main goals of RT is to reduce or eliminate effects of an individual's disability while becoming more independent. A therapist works towards this goal by introducing new leisure skills such as using community resources, initiating social interaction, discovering new interests, self-awareness to health, and much more depending on what the individual's current needs are.

Rec Therapy happens in group and one-on-one settings, in a wide variety of environments. The therapist works with the client and their family to incorporate specific interests and community resources into therapy to achieve optimal outcomes that transfer to their real-life situation.
